Ryan Gomez is the founder of Agape Biblical Counseling, dedicated to offering compassionate counseling rooted in biblical principles. He serves primarily as a bondservant and ambassador of the Lord Christ Jesus. As a certified Christian counselor and a presidential member of the AACC (American Association of Christian Counselors), he blends biblical counseling and psychology in his practice. Trained by some of the world's leading apologists and biblical counselors, Ryan also serves as a church elder at the Protestant Church at Piedra Plat in Aruba. He writes for 'Selah' magazine and is a loving husband and father of three. The Lord called him to establish a non-profit organization that provides care for people God's way, especially those who are brokenhearted, mourning, stressed, navigating difficult seasons in life, and searching for meaning, purpose, and truth. Ryan’s compassionate purpose in life is to glorify and exalt Christ Jesus while sharing Him with those most in need of His Gospel.

Biblical counseling, also known as Nouthetic counseling or sometimes referred to as compassionate counseling, places faith at the heart of the healing journey. This approach integrates the wisdom of Scripture with principles from psychology, creating a unique blend of biblical counseling and psychology to support your mental and emotional well-being, as well as your relationships. By drawing on biblical teachings, a Christian counselor helps guide you through life’s challenges, using faith as the foundation for personal growth and healing. The ultimate goal of biblical counseling is to assist the counselee in recognizing and addressing behaviors that diverge from God’s teachings. This process encourages individuals to align more closely with God’s will, even when it may conflict with their own desires. Biblical counselors believe that the Bible is the ultimate guide for how people, especially Christians, should think and act, viewing it as the singular source of truth.

The aim of biblical counseling is to apply faith-based principles alongside psychological insights to help individuals manage and resolve various life issues. Christian counselors not only assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions but also equip clients with coping skills to better adapt to life’s changes and challenges. Biblical counseling addresses a diverse range of issues, meaning clients can set a variety of goals, from managing adjustment issues to addressing mental health conditions. Some of the most common goals of compassionate counseling include: overcoming marital difficulties, navigating parenting challenges, supporting mental health and emotional well-being, healing from grief and loss, recovering from substance abuse and addiction, and deepening faith to enhance one’s relationship with God through the integration of biblical counseling and psychology.

Biblical counseling is well-suited for anyone facing psychological or health issues. It’s essential to understand that biblical counseling doesn't focus on just one problem or mental illness; rather, it addresses a wide variety of personal, relational, parental, social, and mental health challenges. This compassionate counseling approach integrates faith into the healing process, offering a spiritual perspective to help resolve and heal from these issues. If you are dealing with any of the following, consider seeking help from a Christian counselor specializing in biblical counseling and psychology: relationship, parent-child, or marital issues; parenting challenges; mental health concerns or psychological distress; grief and loss; difficulties with goal-setting; low self-esteem or lack of self-confidence; struggles with faith or a weakened connection to God; and substance abuse or addiction.

Biblical counseling can be highly beneficial for Christians and those with a deep faith or spirituality, but its advantages extend beyond just religious individuals. This approach, which combines elements of biblical counseling and psychology, can be valuable for anyone, including those who may be irreligious and struggling with issues such as grief or relationship problems, finding it difficult to cope alone. For those who have a strong belief in God, biblical counseling may provide even greater benefits. Centered around biblical teachings, this form of therapy aims to deepen your understanding of Scripture, strengthen your connection with God, and help you navigate life's challenges in accordance with His commandments. The goal is to use these spiritual resources to foster healing and personal growth. You may find that compassionate counseling through a Christian counselor is particularly beneficial if you experience: anxiety that disrupts daily activities, panic attacks, insomnia or difficulties with sleep, social isolation or avoidance of loved ones, significant changes in weight, feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, or being overwhelmed, uncontrolled, irrational anger, loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, or a sense of disconnection from your faith or God.
